Spelling Words -test on FridayEach week students will focus on a words with a targeted spelling pattern or spelling rule. They will take a spelling pre-test on Monday to determine which words they already know and which words they need more practice with. After taking the test, students will write down the spelling words they need more practice with in their agenda.
Amazing WordsEach week students are exposed to new words called "amazing words". Students are not tested on these words. These are only for exposure to new words. These words will be found in texts we are reading that week, as well as other texts throughout the year.
Also, students will use these words in writing throughout the year. |
Vocabulary Words -- Test on FridayEach week students learn a new set of vocabulary words based on stories we are reading. Each Friday, students are tested on these words. We are looking for their understanding of what these words mean in order for students to comprehend what they are reading.
- Mrs. Pridgen's students have a word study notebook for spelling and vocabulary. Spelling lists are still written in their agenda as well. - Ms. Story-Smith's students write the vocabulary in their agenda. Homework

Social Studies:
4th graders learn all about North Carolina!! Students will have access to a weekly newspaper issue called North Carolina Studies Weekly. Each week students will read interesting facts about our state. There will be some small projects related to NC this year and students will be keeping track of information they learn in an interactive S.S. notebook. This weekly newspaper can also be accessed digitally on any device as long as you have internet access. Each student has a username and password.
